Florence Faye Matheny DeShazer August 9, 1921~ July 5, 2017

Florence was a very loving and faithful wife, mother and friend who was loved by all who knew her. Born in Toddville, Iowa to Archie and Alice Matheny, she was the second of four children. In 1945, after teaching for 7 years, she left Iowa to attend Seattle Pacific College in Seattle, Washington. She married Jake DeShazer on August 29, 1946. Jake had participated in the 1942 Doolittle Raid over Tokyo, Japan during World War II and survived 40 months as a POW. In 1948, they moved to Japan as Free Methodist Missionaries and for 30 years they spread the message of Christ’s salvation, love and forgiveness, helping to start 23 new churches throughout Japan. They retired in 1977 to Salem, Oregon. Jake died in 2008 and in 2012 Florence moved to Shoreline, Washington. She leaves behind a brother and sister, five children, 10 grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren and another one due in October and lots of nieces and nephews and their families.

I'm sorry to hear about your

I'm sorry to hear about your mom's passing. My condolences go out to you and your family. I'm also an Mk/PK. I was born in the Philippines. My parents were church planters. My dad started a Bible College that is flourishing. He was in WWII in the army and stationed in Japan during occupation. He passed in 2014. I was very moved by your Dad's testimony. I just finished reading Jacob Deshazer by Janet & Geoff Benge.
